This time of year, “new year, new you” messages are hitting our feeds, screens, and life hard, bombarding us with images and words that encourage us to get back in shape, lose weight, and make changes to be better.
At Love Pilates we are here to help you establish and achieve your wellness goals. But we believe that well-being is about so much more than a number on the scale or one that is printed on a tag inside a pair of pants.
This year, why not work with us on setting wellness goals that really matter? And while we’re at it, put research-backed goal setting best practices in place so you can actually achieve those outcomes that really matter, too.
Wellness Goals that Really Make a Difference Long Term
We have worked with countless clients on identifying obstacles, challenges, and pain points that get between them and living life to the fullest.
Things like:
Stress at work or home
Physical pain in the body
Sleep disturbances or difficulties
Anxiety, depression, overwhelm, or burnout
Decreased energy or fatigue
Reduced strength, coordination, or balance
Most of us can find areas in our body, mind, spirit, or relational life that get between us and feeling our best. These are big picture challenges that can be alleviated or improved when you regularly move your body in the practice of Pilates.
Instead of setting a goal to lose five pounds or fit back into that snug cocktail dress, choose goals that will make a real difference in your life long term.
Things like:
🎯Lower stress level at work
🎯Reduce lower back pain
🎯Sleep 7-8 hours per night
🎯Feel less anxious and overwhelmed
🎯Have sustained energy throughout the day
🎯Get stronger
Identifying these goals is only the first step. Now it’s time to set yourself up for success with tried and true goal setting practices that really work.

Research Backed Goal-Setting Method to Achieve Wellness Goals
The research on goal-setting is robust and the SMART system is one of the most effective and well-studied methods for achieving goals. This is the system we use to set and track goals with our clients for a very simple reason: it works!
SMART goals are Specific, Measureable, Attainable, Relevant, andTime Bound. Let’s look at the goal of “less stress at work” through the lens of the SMART method.
Specific: Targets a specific condition (stress) in a specific setting (work).
Measureable: Track stress using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS).
Attainable: When stress level on PSS reaches level of 0-13, goal is achieved.
Relevant: Stress impacts your physical and mental well being.
Time Bound: Track progress every month for 6 months.
Instead of just saying out loud that you want to experience less stress at work, the SMART method gives you a way to track your progress, a time commitment for how long you will work towards it, and a clear metric that will show when you have achieved it.
Whatever your wellness goals are, Love Pilates can help you reach them! Let us help you identify the things that are getting in your way and together, we can come up with a SMART plan to remove those obstacles for good. It’s not about becoming a “new you.” It’s about having access to the full you.
